Lakeland, Florida’s Lake Hollingsworth district and its surrounding neighborhoods have long represented what it means to truly embody the Central Florida lifestyle.

Dating back as far as the early 1900s, the lake’s southern shore continues to be a popular swimming and boating location.  J.L. Francis built Francis Beach in 1914, which incidentally was the place to go for weekly dances.

Francis Beach and Pavilion stood just east of the the present site of the Lakeland Yacht Club, and was one of Lakeland’s premier recreation destinations for nearly 25 years. The pavilion was torn down in 1939.

Frank Lloyd Wright and Florida Southern College

Standing on the northern shore of Lake Hollingsworth is  Florida Southern College , which features the world’s largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Florida Southern is continually ranked among the best colleges in America by college guidebooks.  The college offers a more than 50 different programs of study and boasts small classes taught by supportive professors who challenge students to explore their potential, make new discoveries, and develop their leadership skills.  Classes rarely grow to sizes above 30 students, even for the standard core course offerings.  As such, students are guaranteed an up close and personal educational experience.

Spring and summer are the lake’s most active periods, and residents are treated to a wide variety of water skiing tournaments, sailboat regattas, boat parades and the annual Orange Cup Regatta hydroplane competition.

Historic Victorian Homes and Tree-Lined Streets

The Lake Hollingsworth Neighborhood is only a short distance from the Lake Morton District is surrounded by tree-lined streets showcasing a wonderful selection of historic Victorian homes, brick homes, older bungalows, and Mediterranean style homes dating back to the 1920s.   With a nice blend of historic and luxurious homes, Lakeland’s Lake Hollingsworth district is the perfect location for those seeking a relaxed and picturesque lifestyle.
