Holiday Greetings Go High Tech

In a high tech age of facebook where we connect with more people but do so more shallowly than ever online video is becoming something that more and more savvy marketers are using to inexpensively put a personal touch to their connections online.

Video used to be expensive but now with a little bit of learning you can shoot video and create high impact media for cheaper and easier than ever.  In fact kodak just came out with a Zi8 which is a small hand flip like video recorder.  It sells for 150.00 (180 now that it is out of stock) however it has features that are found in camcorders selling for $500 plus.  It records videos in full 1080p hd.  With a 32 gb sdhc card it can record 16 hours of full hd.  Most important though is the fact that even in its cell phone style package it allows for the insertion of an external mic which is one of the main barriers beginner style cameras getting a reasonable quality video.

For the Holidays it’s nice to be able to contact all of your clients.  However sending an email or even a preprinted card simply isnt enough.  With a little bit of creativity you can create memorable impressions and even dialogue.  Here is an example of a silly video I did to try to connect with my clients and people that I love.  I used an $80 fold out greenscreen,  ordinary lights for lighting,  a $500 cannon HF100, a $25  audio technica lavolier microphone and a $80 dollar usb condensor microphone to do the voice over.  I used free audacity to edit the audio voice over and used sony vegas pro ($125) to animate and edit the video.   It’s not totally proffessional but I have had some nice feedback so far.  I think the people on my list will look forward to hearing from me.
