The El Paso, Texas Housing Boom

As a part of the 2005 Base Closure and Realignment Commission’s decision to expand Fort Bliss, there has been a housing explosion in El Paso, Texas. While much of the nation is struggling with an upside down real estate market and high unemployment levels, the El Paso area was not hit as hard as many other areas during the housing market boom and bust. El Paso did not see the tremendous price increases that took place during the housing bubble expansion, so they did not take as big of a hit to the housing prices when the bubble burst. Having escaped much of the hit to housing prices makes economic recovery a bit easier, as do the 14,000 additional soldiers that have already been stationed at Fort Bliss and the 13,000 more expected by 2012.

Although the El Paso area avoided much of the devastation in the real estate market, they have had their economic problems. With the area’s largest employer being the military installation, the decision of the Base Closure and Realignment Commission to expand the base has pushed the El Paso area to remain among the top cities for job creation and salary growth. With the high unemployment levels being one of the last big obstacles to a recovering real estate market, it is a great time to be earning a living with a Texas real estate license in the El Paso area.

The need for off base housing around Fort Bliss has fueled an El Paso housing boom. For anyone earning a living a Texas real estate license this means increased business; for anyone considering a career in Texas real estate this could mean fantastic opportunity. All you need to get your start in Texas real estate is to meet some basic qualifications and educational requirements. In fact, you might be surprised to find how simple it is to earn a Texas real estate license.

The state of Texas requires only 210 hours of real estate training in order to sit for the Texas real estate license exam. With the availability of online real estate schools, you can complete the necessary real estate courses in as little as a few weeks. Aside from the educational requirements, you must be at least 18 years old, a United States citizen or legal alien, and a resident of Texas. If you meet these qualifications, you may then apply for your inactive Texas real estate license.

El Paso is just one of the areas in Texas that are experiencing recovery at a rate faster than the rest of the nation. Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio have all topped lists of best real estate markets for 2010 and are expected to do the same for 2011. In just a few weeks, you could be on your way to a prosperous new career in Texas real estate.
