Default Pay Per Click Marketing Should I or Shouldn't I

I am going to try using pay per click marketing on one of my sites, however I a little worried that I will be spending more than I am making. Does anyone have any pointers or does anyone have any horror stories that they would like to share.

I just signed our office up on Google ad words and on the yahoo equivalent. We're getting the ad coming up but no clicks so far. I tried to target it really specific on keywords. I think that's the key to not getting useless clicks. You can specify how much you will spend per click, per day, and per month. I started small.

Let me give you a hint. Rather then going after the really big terms for a couple dollars a click. Look for less searched but more relevant terms. For instance. Rather then "YourCity Homes for Sale" Try "Your City Luxury Homes for Sale" You can pick a lot of these terms up for .10c and get some really cheap clicks.

By going after more targeted search phrases you will improve the quality of the lead as well.

If you do decide to implement a PPC campaign, then my recommendation is to install this free service

http://www.hittail.com/

on your pages.

The tiny amount of javascript code works best when placed in a "footer" include or another module that results in the code insertion on every page of your site.

Briefly,

HitTail reveals in real-time the least utilized, most promising keywords hidden in the Long Tail of your natural search results. We present these terms to you as suggestions that when acted on can boost the natural search results of your site. It's that simple.

from

http://www.hittail.com/what/

"long tail" keyphrases will mean the difference between a successful and not-so-successful PPC campaign.

Do your research with

http://www.google.com/search?q=long+...ient=firefox-a

which will show dozens of articles that make web-centric discussions of the previously-coined economic principle

I have our office signed up for ad words. The ad is coming up, but we are getting NO clicks (guess I need a flashier ad?).

hardly... flashy is the one thing most realtors could maybe do less of... the offer in the ad is the only thing that compells people to click... what you offer must speak to your ideal prospects chief value at the moment they are viewing your ad...

I'm not good at writing ads. Our ad is being shown, but getting very few clicks. This is better than getting lots of clicks from people who aren't interested in what we are doing, of course. But still, I would like to see more clicks.
