A WordPress blog has two different editor screens for writing new pages or posts: HTML and Visual.
Learning HTML is not scary, and it is vital to have a basic understanding if you want to control the way your content appears in posts and pages.
Embedding YouTube videos, adding Click-able images to widget sidebars, deleting paragraphs and line breaks, designing fancy blog post introductions, creating columns / tables, dropping in Google Maps on an “About Page” or linking to your site from social networking profile pages that allow HTML are a few examples.
There may be times when your post isn’t showing up the way you want it to when designed strictly using the visual editor, so you’ll need to be able to jump into the HTML editor screen and see if anything looks out of place.
